Extraordinary Measures
Extraordinary Measures is a hard watch. A brother and sister, 6 & 8, crippled from a rare disease, are expected to die within a year – and the film puts us in that family. Tough stuff. What is truly extraordinary, however, is the much maligned business man as hero in a Hollywood movie. A scientist with a theory cannot develop a drug. The father, rising executive turned bio-tech CEO, makes the bare-knuckles management decisions, and corporate deals necessary to bring a drug to market so he can attempt to save his kids, cure others, and (incidentally) get rich. Capitalism: extraordinary!
